Good morning fellow aficionados! I know it's just after midnight, so some of you are still up. Obviously, I am as I work my "day job" overnight, so this is the usual time you'll hear from me. And since I am at work, my beverage of choice is...COFFEE.
Usually, I'm a latte kind of girl, but honestly, I was so caught up in putting the site together when I should've been getting ready to leave out, that I forgot to make my latte. So here I am, making coffee and being just a smidge upset with myself that this isn't as good as my usual, but let's move on. Let's talk about how all of this came together. The plan for Ambrosia Coffee and Wine. Like most people during the pandemic, I had lots of time on my hands and spent way too much of it scrolling through social media sites. But one fine Tuesday (I don't know if it was a Tuesday, I just like the day,) this one paid off. I saw a post about the start-up costs for a coffee shop and I screenshot it. It was interesting to learn that it didn't take nearly as much capital as I believed it would. At the time, I was with a company that did not stop because of the pandemic and my focus remained there. As time continued on, I kept thinking of the coffee house plan and where I wanted to open it. It was (and still is) important to me to open a business in my community and create spaces that have been gone for too long. The thing is, I lived on the west coast, but kept leaning towards the east coast as that's my home. And I still had my day job, so my dream returned to the back burner, and I continued to press on for that company. Then in 2021, I made a friend who loved wine more than I did, which was impressive. She got me into the wine subscription boxes. It was a great opportunity to learn about wines from around the world without going to the store and staring at the walls, hoping I was picking a good one that I would enjoy, instead of storing it on the door of the refrigerator, waiting for me to cook with it. I enjoyed the subscription box and most of the wines were spot on for me. A few weren't so great, but who cared. I was elevating my wine pallet, and I knew I was fancy for doing so. Friends called me bougie and the shoe was the right size when it came to my wines, so I showed off those new "shoes" to everyone. Can you guess what came next? I ditched the whole coffee idea and said, "It's the wine for me!" and kept it going. I'd take that same capital (that I didn't yet have) and do a wine bar instead because that's what bougie people did. It'd still be in my community, just open at different hours. Fast forward to fall 2022. Life was lifing and the direction I was going was not a pleasant ride. I mean, I was getting things done in my day job, but personally, I had no life. My joy had been sucked away and what remained was foreign. It was not me and I decided to take some time to get my priorities in order. First, that was self-care. Next, I had to make the decision to return to the daily hustle or find another so I can peruse my own hustle. The company I worked for taught me a lot about running a business so I wouldn't start from scratch; however, I realized I needed a job that gave me the flexibility to focus on my personal aspirations as well. And I found that job. But before I found that job, while I was on my self care journey, I decided I wanted my cake and ice cream, and I would enjoy them both. I would do coffee by day, wine by night and share my new happiness with the world. In my community, of course. So here we are, taking steps to share my loves with you at the end of Lover's Day. I couldn't have planned it better myself. Welcome to Ambrosia Coffee and Wine; a place that will hold the best of both worlds under one roof!
